Planning An Outdoor Wedding

Let’s talk outdoor weddings! While we love an outdoor setting for both ceremony and reception, there are definitely a few things to consider if you’re planning an event open to the elements...

☀️ HEAT - particularly in Perth in the peak summer months, this is a huge one to consider. Not just for the guests, but also for all the suppliers who are setting up in the peak of the day - and for the delicate flowers that are so susceptible to heat! Consider things like shade, hydration, fans or misters, as well as alternate locations should the weather just be too extreme to have guests out side (particularly for afternoon ceremonies while the sun is still up).

☀️ SHADE - always have shade options available - whether it’s checking where shade from nearby trees will be at the timing of the ceremony and adjusting location accordingly, to providing umbrellas, parasols, and where relevant, marquee covers.

🌧 WIND - again, a huge one in Perth as one of the windiest cities in the world - consider the location and it’s openness to wind, and adjust accordingly. This might mean changing the arbour style or direction of the ceremony to avoid losing florals into the river, choosing different candles or decor that aren't going to be caught in the wind and whisked off the table (or broken, in the case of glass), making sure your candles have plenty of coverage in sleeves so they don’t endlessly blow out, or adding something to sit on top of your menu to make sure they stay in place.

🌧 RAIN - always, always, always have a plan B. Even if it’s peak summer in a month that has low chance of rain, always have somewhere in mind so that you’re not caught off guard the week of the wedding should it be forecast to be drizzly on the day. 

Remember, the one thing you can’t control is the weather, but with a little forward planning and foresight, you can make sure you’re prepared for whatever weather comes your way.
